A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

I am a fulltime employee working for a global company based in West Michigan. Together with my fellow artist friends, we volunteer at a local non-profit organization. We provide art lessons to a group of young adults with autism. As a Junior Achievement advisor, I make donuts to introduce commerce and international business to elementary and middle school students ;-)

2. Why do you make art?

Art forces me to slow down. It helps me realize that there is no need to rush.

3. What inspires you?

Everything I see. Everyone I meet. Every book I read.

4. What/who are your influences?

My father bought me a 35MM Olympus10 camera when I was 15. He said: “Take pictures of beautiful things. Remember, there is no such thing as ugly. Change your lens. Change where you stand. You will always find beauty.”

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

Yayoi Kusama from Nagano prefecture, Japan. Through art, she overcame childhood trauma and mental illness. Kusama san became one of the most successful artists in the world. Born in 1929, she is still making art everyday at her studio. To me, that's courage.
